Big night at the Olimpico: Inter Milan ready without Thuram, Roma still testing options in attack

The stage is set for tonight’s big clash at the Stadio Olimpico, as Roma host Inter Milan at 20:45 CEST. 

Both sides return from the international break looking to make a statement, though their preparations tell two different stories.

Roma — Gasperini weighing multiple attacking options

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport via Fcinter1908, Gasperini still has several tactical questions to answer, with many of his key players returning late from international duty. 

The main dilemma is whether to start with a traditional striker — Dovbyk slightly ahead of Ferguson — or to rely on a false nine, with Dybala leading the line, an option tested in training this week.

Dybala is also battling Pellegrini for a starting spot as left attacking midfielder. The captain may get the nod thanks to his ability to press and disrupt Calhanoglu in midfield. On the left flank, it’s a tight race between Tsimikas and Rensch, with the Greek recently back from national team duty and the Dutchman offering more defensive balance.

Inter Milan: Chivu ready to start Bonny alongside Lautaro

For Inter Milan, things are clearer. Apart from Marcus Thuram, who remains sidelined with injury, Cristian Chivu has his lineup set. 

Bonny is expected to partner Lautaro Martínez in attack, slightly favored over Pio Esposito.

Lautaro, fresh off his international appearances, looks ready to lead the line again. Out wide, Dimarco and Dumfries will support the attack, while Acerbi anchors the defense behind the trusted midfield trio of Barella, Calhanoglu, and Mkhitaryan.

A small surprise: Alessandro Calligaris, goalkeeper from Inter’s U23 side, was called up last minute and will join the squad in Rome today as third-choice keeper.

Both teams aim to make a strong statement — Inter Milan to solidify their title chase, and Roma to stay in contention for a top-four finish.
