Dumfries doubtful for the derby: Carlos Augusto emerges

Denzel Dumfries struggles to recover as Carlos Augusto gains momentum
The path leading to the derby is becoming increasingly uphill for Denzel Dumfries: the Inter Milan Dutch winger has not yet overcome the ankle issue that stopped him while on international duty, and today’s check-up in Appiano suggests the utmost caution.
Dumfries’ condition will be monitored and evaluated day by day, but the time available is objectively limited: only four training sessions remain before Sunday night’s super clash against Milan, and it’s difficult to imagine the player recovering in such a short time.

Dumfries first felt discomfort after Inter Milan–Lazio, due to a sprained left ankle, but still travelled to join the Netherlands squad.
It was from the Oranje camp that news of a precautionary stop arrived, on the eve of last Friday’s match against Poland: Dumfries underwent the necessary tests—which initially encouraged optimism ahead of the Milan match—and then returned to Italy.
Medical checks worsen outlook: rising pessimism inside Inter Milan
Yesterday’s examination, conducted by the Inter Milan medical staff, however, revealed a more complicated picture than expected: as hours pass, a considerable amount of pessimism is growing regarding his participation in the derby.
At this point, Carlos Augusto’s chances of replacing the Dutchman on the right flank are rising, also considering the disappointing performances of Luis Henrique, who has remained Dumfries’ deputy only on paper.
Indicative, in this sense, was Chivu’s decision in the match against Lazio: when the Inter Milan coach substituted Dumfries, he deployed the left-footed Carlos Augusto, adapting him to the right side.
