The Bosnian defender from Sassuolo is attracting attention after a stellar Serie A start — Inter Milan are seriously evaluating his profile for next summer’s rebuild

There’s a new name on Inter Milan’s shortlist for the defence ahead of the next transfer window. According to Niccolò Ceccarini in his latest column for TuttoMercatoWeb via Fcinter1908, the Nerazzurri have set their sights on Tarik Muharemovic, the 22-year-old Bosnian centre-back currently playing for Sassuolo.

Muharemovic has been one of the surprise standouts of the first six Serie A matchdays, quickly establishing himself as one of the most promising young defenders in Italy.

Strong, composed on the ball and tactically intelligent, he’s shown remarkable maturity for his age. His ability to play both as a central defender in a back three and as a full-back in a four-man line makes him an ideal fit for Cristian Chivu’s tactical system, which demands flexibility and comfort in build-up play.

A promising profile and a familiar relationship

The relationship between Inter Milan and Sassuolo is historically very positive — recent deals such as the transfer of Davide Frattesi are a testament to the excellent communication between the two clubs.

That could play a key role in smoothing future negotiations should Inter Milan decide to move concretely for the player.

Ceccarini reports that, while the operation is still in its early, exploratory phase, the interest from Inter Milan is real and growing. The club’s scouting department has been impressed by Muharemovic’s development, physical attributes, and mentality — all key traits in Chivu’s high-pressing, aggressive defensive setup.

Competition and financial details

It won’t be an easy pursuit, however. Juventus currently hold a 50% sell-on clause on Muharemovic’s future transfer, which could complicate negotiations and potentially raise the final asking price. Sassuolo are aware of the growing attention around the player and could decide to wait until the end of the season to maximize value.

In the current market, Muharemovic’s value is estimated at around €15 million (£12.8 million), but that figure could rise significantly if he maintains his current level of performance.

Several Bundesliga clubs are also monitoring him, particularly from Germany, where his development path as a young European defender is seen with great interest.

Inter Milan’s defensive plans for 2026

Inter Milan’s transfer strategy for 2026 is becoming clearer: the club is planning a gradual renewal of the backline, balancing experience and youth.

With Acerbi and De Vrij approaching the twilight of their careers, and Yann Bisseck’s future uncertain, identifying a young defender with long-term potential is a top priority.

Muharemovic could fit that bill perfectly — a player with room to grow, already used to Serie A rhythms, and with the right technical and mental profile to thrive at San Siro.

For now, it’s only preliminary scouting, but the interest is concrete, and Inter Milan will continue to closely follow the Bosnian talent in the coming months.
