Left-back’s stellar season cements Dimarco as Chivu’s go-to player

Federico Dimarco is having a spectacular season. The left-back has become one of the decisive factors in Inter Milan under Cristian Chivu. Already influential under Inzaghi, he is now even more lethal in his current role.

"The Nerazzurri club is thrilled with Dimarco’s stellar performances this season. He has been improving for years, but never reached such heights with this consistency. Currently, there’s no one in Italy—and perhaps few in Europe—capable of controlling a game from the left flank like he does. For Chivu, he is the extra man."

Contract talks and commitment to Inter Milan

Neither Chivu nor the Inter Milan management would ever consider letting Dimarco leave. His contract, currently valid until 2027, may soon be updated.

Discussions on an extension, possibly with a salary increase, are expected before the season ends. The 28-year-old, who climbed the ranks from Inter Milan’s youth system and endured challenging loans, has no desire to play elsewhere.

"Dimarco has worked hard to reach the top, and now that he’s here, he won’t leave. Both parties are keen on a renewal."

Currently, Dimarco earns €4 million net per year (~£3.5m). The club wants to avoid last-minute negotiations and is considering a three-year extension to secure his services until 2030. His agency, Roc Nation (owned by Jay-Z), is promoting him as a prime example of Italian talent thriving at home.

Numbers that prove his European-level impact

The stats back up the hype. Dimarco has already delivered eight assists this season—unmatched by any defender in Serie A’s first 24 rounds—and sits alongside elite talents like Lamine Yamal across Europe.

Only three players in the top five leagues have more assists than him: Luis Diaz (9), Bruno Fernandes (12), and Michael Olise (15).

In Serie A, Dimarco leads for big chances created (21), total chances (59), expected goals from defense (2.6), and shots per 90 minutes (2).

Chivu’s approach has been pivotal. Unlike last season, Dimarco now completes 17 full matches out of 30, often substituted only around the 85th minute. With improved fitness and Dumfries sidelined, Chivu maximizes Dimarco’s offensive influence, letting him dominate the final third.

"Immersed in the Olympic spirit of Milan, Dimarco wants to continue excelling and will compete solely in this jersey as long as he can."
