Sommer speaks after Roma-Inter Milan: “We stayed united, three points that matter”

The Swiss goalkeeper reflects on Inter Milan’s win, Chivu’s approach, and the team’s growing chemistry under their new coach

At the final whistle of Roma vs Inter Milan, it wasn’t just Cristian Chivu to speak with the press — Yann Sommer also stopped by the microphones to share his thoughts on the team’s performance and his own mindset after the match.

“What’s it worth? Three points,” Sommer began with a smile. “It was really important. We had a difficult second half, but those three points mean a lot for our journey.”

On criticism and response

The Swiss goalkeeper addressed the recent discussions surrounding his form with calm confidence:

“That’s football. I made a mistake — that’s it. I know this world well; I’ve been through similar moments in my career. We just needed to find our rhythm again with the new coach, and we did.”

Sommer emphasized how Chivu’s tactical approach is changing the team’s dynamic:

“With Chivu, we try to move the ball faster, less possession for its own sake, and find the forwards more quickly. Above all, he wants energy — even in tough moments like today.”

On the team and Akanji’s impact

Sommer also praised the team’s unity in the tougher stretches of the match:

“Roma played better in the second half, but we stayed united. That’s the most important thing.”

Finally, he spoke warmly about his new teammate Manuel Akanji, who recently joined the Nerazzurri:

“Akanji is a player with great qualities — physically strong, very calm on the ball, and incredibly smart in reading the game. He always makes the right decision and brings positivity to the dressing room. I’m especially happy to have a fellow Swiss alongside me.”
