Lautaro Martinez seals Inter Milan 1-0 win over Atalanta, finishes 2025 with 30 goals

Captain delivers decisive strike as Inter Milan return to the top of Serie A

Another crucial goal, the 30th of 2025, and it came from Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez. 

The Argentine striker struck with his left foot, clinical as ever, assisted by Pio Esposito, securing a 1-0 victory against Atalanta in the final match of the calendar year.

The win is pivotal, sending Inter Milan back to the top of the Serie A table.

It was a direct clash: Atalanta is a strong team that has done very well in recent years in both Serie A and Europe. 

They press aggressively and try to make you play badly. We prepared the game very well and played it perfectly. There’s always room for improvement, but these are three very important points. I’m happy with our work, and these three points are a gift for our fans and our families, who are always by our side.”

On Pio Esposito’s assist, Lautaro added:
“He works hard, we talk a lot. He wants to learn. He’s on a growth path, he must stay calm because he’s young, and you grow even through mistakes. Let him develop naturally: he will give great satisfaction to us and to the Italian national team.”

Reflecting on the year and personal growth

“The year 2025 closes for me: at the end of last season I had a hip flexor problem and struggled, but still played important matches. 

After the summer, I rested and worked hard to reach this season in the best possible way. The staff is fundamental; they help me raise my level. 

I always try to grow and improve. Having young, hungry players behind you pushes you to raise your game: you have to be ready every day. I have this drive every single day.”
