From derby heroics to recent struggles: can Thuram bounce back?
Milan, Roma, Lazio, Napoli: in Inter Milan’s Scudetto year, Marcus Thuram delivered decisive goals, quickly becoming one of the icons of the club’s second star.
His explosive debut derby and the goal in the return fixture that sealed the title are still fresh in Nerazzurri fans’ memories. But that impact now feels far away.
Numbers, big-match doubts, and the pressure to deliver again
Last season, despite being his most prolific campaign with 18 goals, Thuram went missing in almost every big match.
After his brace against Atalanta early in the season, many believed he was ready to follow the same path as the Scudetto year.
Instead, his next truly decisive strike didn’t arrive until the Champions League semifinal first leg against Barcelona — and then nothing. Inter Milan know the truth well: the Scudetto is also won in direct clashes, and they learned that the hard way.
Thuram himself is the first to admit he has something to prove. The first six months of 2025 have been far from his best.

Injuries played their part, but there were also games where he looked disconnected from the team. The Club World Cup only underlined the dip in form, while his performances with France remain underwhelming — unable to become the difference-maker for Les Bleus.
And yet, Inter Milan is different. It is in the black and blue shirt that “Tikus” has found his identity and developed into a complete forward. His pace, dribbling, and ability to stretch defenses are perfectly suited to the Nerazzurri’s system. That’s why, after international duty, Thuram wasted no time: on Tuesday night he was already back in Milan, training at Pinetina by Wednesday morning.
The message is clear: Marcus Thuram wants to bounce back. Inter Milan need the Scudetto version of Tikus again — the derby hero, the big-game striker, the man who doesn’t shy away when it matters most.
