Akanji’s instant impact: Inter Milan’s defense finds new stability

The Swiss defender has seamlessly integrated into Chivu’s backline, becoming a key figure in Inter Milan’s renewed defensive solidity

“The signal from Inter Milan is loud and clear,” wrote La Gazzetta dello Sport via Fcinter1908 in its latest analysis after the Nerazzurri’s 4-1 win over Cremonese. “Now it’s up to the other title contenders to respond convincingly — whether it’s Allegri’s Milan returning to the Stadium or Juventus, still unbeaten after Cremonese’s defeat.”

Inter Milan’s turnaround has been emphatic. While the attack continues to deliver, the defense has rediscovered its balance and reliability — thanks in no small part to the team’s latest addition.

“Since the loss to Juventus, Inter Milan have scored 13 goals and conceded only 2 — one when leading Sassuolo 2-0 and another yesterday at 4-0. 

The offensive power was already there, but now the team has found greater compactness,” Gazzetta noted.

“Akanji’s contribution has been far from marginal: he’s now an undisputed starter, having overtaken Bisseck and proving to be a more reliable replacement for Pavard — a player no one is currently missing.”

Even the few lapses in concentration late in games appear minor compared to the overall quality on display.

The victory over Cremonese highlighted all of Chivu’s tactical trademarks: high pressing, quick ball recovery, vertical passing, and lightning-fast transitions.
