Nerazzurri coach admits team lacked sharpness in final third

Cristian Chivu spoke to DAZN via Fcinter1908 after Inter Milan were beaten 1-0 by AC Milan in the Milan derby.

The Nerazzurri coach admitted that his team struggled to impose their game, particularly during the first half.

Chivu: “The first half was played at a slow pace”

Chivu explained that Inter Milan improved after the break but were still unable to find the equaliser.

“We played the first half at a slow pace. In the first 20 minutes of the second half we increased the intensity and had some good moments, including Dimarco’s chance.

We tried in every way to break down their low block, even changing formation, but unfortunately we couldn’t find the equaliser.”

Struggles in the final third

The Inter Milan coach acknowledged that his side lacked quality and precision in attacking situations.

“It doesn’t mean we played well. We reached the byline several times but without creating clear chances.

Most of our crosses ended up being easy targets for their defenders, and we never managed to attack the ball ahead of them.”

Chivu added that Inter Milan’s first-half performance was below their usual standards.

“The first half was below par, without enough dynamism. We need to improve and raise the level while continuing the good work we’ve done so far. We could and should have done better.”

Young strikers given valuable experience

Chivu also defended his attacking players despite their struggles during the match.

“Our forwards were a bit lacking today, but that’s not an excuse. I’m happy with what they tried to do. For two young players, playing this kind of match is important experience.”

VAR decision on Ricci incident

The Inter Milan coach was also asked about a possible handball involving Samuele Ricci.

“There is a VAR and an assistant VAR who checked the situation, so I have nothing to say about that. I’m thinking about the performance and my own mistakes.”

Focus on the remaining matches

Despite the defeat, Chivu stressed that Inter Milan’s position in the table remains strong.

“We still have ten matches left and we must keep moving forward and build on the good things we’ve done so far.

I don’t think this was the kind of game that should make this group lose confidence.”

He concluded by highlighting that the team’s objectives remain unchanged.

“The gap is still seven points. We just need to keep performing the way we know we can. Even if the result had been different, it wouldn’t have changed our path.”
