Inter Milan are already shaping their future, and current discussions are focused on the goalkeeping situation, where difficult choices lie ahead
At Inter Milan, future planning is always on the agenda, and in recent weeks discussions have mainly focused on the goalkeeping department.
The plan for this season was clear: Yann Sommer as the first-choice, but with plenty of space for Josep Martinez, in view of a gradual handover at the end of the campaign.
However, that scenario inevitably changed when Martinez was involved in the car accident that caused the death of an 81-year-old disabled man, reports Corriere dello Sport via Fcinter1908.
Investigations are ongoing, and the information that has emerged so far does not attribute any specific fault to the Spanish goalkeeper. Still, the psychological impact of such a tragic event cannot be ignored.
Sommer’s age and Martinez’s situation complicate Inter Milan’s plans

It’s one thing for the footballer to return — and Martinez is already back on the bench — but quite another for the man to recover.
Even Chivu admitted the player’s emotional difficulties and the need for support and care. Inter Milan, both as a club and a team, have stood by him and will continue to do so.
On the other hand, technical decisions must be made in a timely manner. The season is still long, but Inter Milan cannot postpone a decision on the goalkeeping situation for too long.
Starting with Sommer, it’s difficult to imagine a contract renewal — his age simply doesn’t lie.
As for Martinez, patience will be required. Yet, at this point, it’s not excluded that he might continue as the second-choice — but behind a new goalkeeper.
