Chivu highlights energy, youth contribution, and readiness ahead of derby and tough fixtures
Cristian Chivu, head coach of Inter Milan, spoke to Sport Mediaset via Fcinter1908 after his team’s Coppa Italia quarter-final victory against Torino, which secured their place in the semi-finals.
“Rating the young players and the team? I’m not a journalist and I don’t do fantasy football. I’m happy with the performance and with what they put on the pitch. The energy, the effort, even in the final difficult moments… we are happy to have advanced, and everyone is pleased.”
“We want to be competitive and maintain continuity with the good work done in recent years. We keep working to deliver strong performances and we know we can still improve.” Chivu said.
Youth integration and squad management

Chivu also reflected on his squad selection for the Torino match:
“Many players were left out, but we are aware of the players we can rely on. Inter Milan got the result while preserving those who have given so much so far. Here, we needed energy, legs, and everything you’ve got. Choices were made based on who had energy, considering the months of January and February. I also want to compliment the youth sector, including Vecchi, who has done a great job preparing players who are useful to our squad this season.”
Preparing for the Derby and season ahead
Regarding the timing of the Coppa Italia first-leg before the Derby:
“I’m never worried. I like to play, I loved it even as a player. I have ambition and desire, which never lack in a club like Inter Milan, without obsessions that can create disappointments. We work hard to be ready, we have capable players who respond when needed and give us a huge hand.”
Chivu also commented on the January transfer window:
“A coach knows a squad can always improve, regardless of the market. We talk about what might be needed, and not everything works out, but we have a valid group. The club tried to do everything we requested, but the market is always tricky. We have 23 players and the Under-23 squad to help us. We try to respond match by match for the rest of the season.”
Analysis
Chivu’s post-match comments underline his trust in squad depth, particularly the contributions of youth players, and his focus on energy and readiness over panic-driven reactions to the calendar or market constraints.
The victory against Torino reflects both tactical discipline and effective squad rotation, giving Inter Milan momentum as they approach the Derby and crucial league matches.
