Cristian Chivu leads Inter Milan toward the title, while major changes loom for the squad

Momentum is building fast at Inter Milan.

After a dominant run, highlighted by nine goals scored against AS Roma and Como, and a strong lead over Napoli, Cristian Chivu’s team is edging ever closer to the Serie A title.

According to Corriere della Sera via Fcinter1908, the Romanian coach has strengthened his position significantly, moving toward both his first Scudetto and a contract extension with improved terms.

Bastoni at the center of the storm

One of the key issues shaping Inter Milan’s future is Alessandro Bastoni.

A cornerstone of the current back three, the defender is attracting strong interest from Barcelona. 

Despite being under contract until 2028, recent events and growing pressure in Italy have led him to reconsider his future.

Barcelona could offer nearly double his current salary, but Inter Milan are unlikely to entertain offers below €60 million (£51.6 million).

A potential deal could include Hector Fort, currently on loan at Elche.

Market plans take shape

A possible Bastoni sale could fund a major rebuild.

Inter Milan are targeting a new first-choice goalkeeper, with Guglielmo Vicario leading the shortlist, while Filip Stankovic is an option as backup.

In defence, Tarik Muharemovic is a concrete target from Sassuolo.

Midfield reinforcements are also planned, with Manu Koné identified as a player who can bring energy and physicality.

Up front, Inter Milan are looking for a different attacking profile, with Moussa Diaby, currently at Al-Ittihad, among the main options.

Tactical shift incoming?

The transfer strategy is closely tied to a potential tactical evolution.

While Chivu has respected the traditional 3-5-2 system, he is believed to favor a back four, possibly shifting to a 4-2-3-1. 

A compromise solution could be a 3-4-2-1, blending continuity with innovation.

Such a change would require different player profiles, especially on the wings and in midfield.
