Guglielmo Vicario signals openness to an Inter Milan move as the club evaluates goalkeeping options for next season

La Gazzetta dello Sport via Fcinter1908 reports an opening from Guglielmo Vicario towards Inter Milan. The Tottenham goalkeeper is keen on returning to Italy.

Inter Milan are currently assessing several profiles for the goalkeeper position ahead of next season, when Yann Sommer is widely expected to depart.

The Swiss keeper is nearing the end of his contract, and the Nerazzurri management have no intention of offering him a renewal.

Among the leading candidates for the role, the name of Italian international Guglielmo Vicario is gaining momentum.

His surname almost plays on a contradiction: he would not be signed to act as anyone’s deputy, but rather as the undisputed first-choice goalkeeper. Inter Milan believe he has all the qualities required to perform at a top-level club, including an impressive résumé.

Vicario has just won the Europa League as a key figure with Tottenham, has gained experience on the international stage through appearances in the Champions League, and has made his debut for the Italian national team.

Born in 1996, he would be approaching the age of 30 while fulfilling a long-held professional dream. As a young player, he looked up to Samir Handanovic, who went on to become Inter Milan’s captain.

No negotiations yet, but Inter Milan monitor situation closely

At present, no formal negotiations have been opened. This applies both to Tottenham, who signed Vicario from Empoli in 2023 for €20 million (£17 million) plus bonuses, and to the player’s entourage.

The same representatives had already discussed a possible move to Inter Milan two years ago, before the club opted for Sommer.

However, time has a way of reshaping destinies. Vicario’s desire to return to Italy and finally join Inter Milan is well known, despite his gratitude for the English experience that helped him grow both as a man and as a goalkeeper.

Everything now depends on Tottenham’s demands. The English club has no urgency or financial need to sell one of its strategic players, who is under contract until 2028.

Inter Milan, for their part, do not want to overspend, even though the goalkeeper position is considered a priority in the club’s reinforcement plan for next season.

The hope is to keep the investment around €20 million (£17 million), a figure that would still guarantee Tottenham a healthy capital gain after three seasons.

It will not be easy, but it is not impossible. Support could come directly from Vicario himself, who has already built strong relationships with Barella, Bastoni, Dimarco and Pio Esposito during national team duties.

Should Vicario personally push for a return home, Inter Milan believe a solution could eventually be found.
