Inter Milan lose in the final minutes in Madrid, prompting a bitter post-match reflection from Cristian Chivu

There is deep frustration within Inter Milan after their late defeat to Atlético Madrid. Speaking to Prime Video via Fcinter1908  after the match, Cristian Chivu analysed the team’s performance and the emotions surrounding the result.

“I spoke to the team and said what needed to be said. There’s a lot of regret—for the performance and for everything we put into the game."

Chivu: “We didn’t deserve to lose, but we must react”

"We didn’t deserve to lose, but lately, regardless of merit or mistakes, we aren’t bringing anything home.

We have to stand back up, react in the moment and do everything possible to get out of this. Sooner or later a bit of luck will return.”

The coach highlighted the need for better game management, especially in the decisive moments.

“We need to manage situations better. In the final minutes we were too frantic and had to do more.

We must understand when to keep the ball more during the build-up. We’ll analyse everything: on the corner kick they did well and we didn’t—we had all our tallest players on the pitch. We should have avoided giving away that corner. There is huge disappointment considering the performance.”

Chivu also explained the substitutions of Piotr Zielinski and Ange-Yoan Bonny.

“Zielo had an issue with his thigh. As for Bonny, we needed fresh legs—someone who could help us push the team higher up the pitch and trouble the opponents with pace.”

Despite the defeat, Chivu reiterated his belief in Inter Milan’s ability to respond, trusting in the quality and mentality of the squad.
