Vicario emerges as Inter Milan’s top target to replace Sommer

Romano and Moretto confirm: the Italian goalkeeper is firmly at the top of Inter Milan’s shortlist

Guglielmo Vicario is no longer just a name on a scouting list. The Italian goalkeeper has become a concrete and increasingly prominent option for Inter Milan as the club plans for life after Yann Sommer.

The situation has been clarified by Fabrizio Romano during his YouTube update. Despite several goalkeepers being linked with Inter Milan in recent weeks, Romano stressed that Vicario remains the reference point.

“Even though many names are circulating for Inter Milan’s goalkeeping role, the one we continue to track is Vicario,” Romano explained.

Why Vicario fits Inter Milan’s long-term vision

Matteo Moretto added further weight to the story, outlining why Vicario stands above the rest of the candidates.

According to Moretto, Vicario is the number one choice due to a mix of key factors: his playing profile, Italian nationality, deep knowledge of Serie A, and suitability for Inter Milan’s future project. 

The goalkeeper has already spoken with teammates from the Italian national team and has given a positive signal about a potential move.

“Vicario is the primary name,” Moretto said. “He is the player who convinces the most. He has already opened the door wide to Inter Milan, and at the moment he sits very high on the shortlist.”

Romano later expanded on the broader context. For Inter Milan, the goalkeeper position is set to become a priority, with Sommer expected to leave at the end of the season. 

Vicario has been admired by sporting director Piero Ausilio for some time, dating back to the search for André Onana’s replacement.

The move did not materialize back then due to timing issues. Now, however, circumstances have changed. 

Vicario is considering a return to Italy, especially given Tottenham’s complicated situation, both on and off the pitch.
