Chivu praises team’s mentality, highlights Luis Henrique and Dimarco decisions after thrilling 6-2 victory

Cristian Chivu spoke at length in the post-match press conference, praising the team’s attitude and explaining his tactical choices:
“The substitution of Luis Henrique for Dimarco? That was my reading of how to attack their defensive line and deliver better-quality crosses when they were defending deep.

Luis Henrique is a valuable player and deserves support, especially given the criticism he sometimes faces. If a player struggles, he needs backing, not blame.

Any mistakes by Sommer are my responsibility. The fans can boo me, but not the players. I also want to thank the second-tier supporters for the chant supporting Sommer at the start of the second half — it shows people understand,” said Chivu.

Chivu: "The attitude of the players impressed me, and their reaction after going 0-2 down was extraordinary."

He added:
“People often talk about tactics, but the real difference is mentality. I liked the team’s attitude. Two early incidents put us in difficulty, but the reaction was wonderful.

I knew the team could respond. A match lasts 100 minutes, and over the last two months we’ve grown mentally. The players adapted to our requests, showing quality, reaction, and commitment. We reversed a difficult situation and continued to execute our game plan, increasing intensity. Perhaps we could have sealed it sooner, but this is a victory that gives confidence for the future.”

Chivu also reflected on the team’s long-term development and competitiveness:
“I tell them the truth, but some things are not for public ears. Despite difficulties and external noise, the players work hard to be competitive.

They give everything for the club, their teammates, and the fans. The squad is mature, competitive, and healing some wounds. We work, we sweat, we dream — and achieving our goals requires effort.”

Regarding the ongoing transfer market, Chivu commented:
“I’ve always said what I say inside the walls stays there. They know my requests and ideas. We’ll see. I hope this transfer window closes soon because I’m tired of hearing the same things.

We’ve earned 52 points under high expectations, reacting and giving our best despite some unfair criticism. Continuity and consistency are what matter.”
