Inter Milan face important decisions as Dumfries nears full recovery

Denzel Dumfries is edging closer to a full return after partially resuming training with Inter Milan in recent days. 

But while the Dutch wing-back focuses on regaining match fitness, attention is already shifting toward the summer transfer window.

There will once again be a release clause in Dumfries’ contract next summer. The question is simple: how much, and how does it work?

How Dumfries' clause works

For the Inter Milan defender, a €25 million (£21,7 million) release clause will be active during the summer of 2026. 

The clause will be valid for the entire month of July, without exceptions or special conditions.

In practical terms, any club willing to match that figure during that specific window could open negotiations directly, placing the decision largely in the player’s hands.

Dumfries was strongly linked with Liverpool during the winter transfer window, and interest in his profile remains high across Europe. 

The player’s intention, according to reports, would be to leave Milan, but everything will ultimately depend on the concrete offers that arrive.

For now, Dumfries is focused on returning to full fitness. But when July comes, the market could begin to move quickly.
