Concerns grow at Inter Milan regarding Denzel Dumfries, sidelined for over a month with persistent ankle pain and no clear recovery timeline

Anxiety is rising at Inter Milan over the condition of their right wing-back, who remains sidelined and without a visible return date. The Nerazzurri club is increasingly concerned about Denzel Dumfries’ situation.

According to Corriere dello Sport via Fcinter1908, the Dutchman has been out for nearly a month, and the absence of a clear prognosis has fueled worry inside Inter Milan.

Dumfries suffered an ankle injury on November 9 during the match against Lazio, following a collision with Zaccagni. Despite the impact, he stayed on the pitch for another twenty minutes.

Concerns grow at Inter Milan regarding Denzel Dumfries, sidelined for over a month with persistent ankle pain and no clear recovery timeline.

Since then, the pain has never fully subsided. On the contrary, every attempt to push through the discomfort has resulted in another setback.

The core issue is that the exact cause of the problem is still unclear. It appears to involve a tendon, but uncertainty remains regarding the best course of treatment.

As a result, Inter Milan has opted for further medical tests and specialist consultations to gain more precise insight. Next week, once all results are available, the club will reassess the situation.

The hope is not only that there will be signs of improvement, but also that the most effective therapeutic pathway can finally be identified.

Medical evaluations ongoing as Inter Milan weigh all options, surgery not ruled out

At present, Inter Milan is not actively considering surgical intervention, although it cannot be completely ruled out should conservative treatments fail. Surgery would be viewed strictly as a last resort.

On a more positive note, Matteo Darmian’s return appears to be approaching.

The Italian defender is expected to travel with the squad to Saudi Arabia, unlike Dumfries. Darmian had been forced to slow down after suffering a calf muscle injury in mid-October.

It remains to be seen whether the former Parma player will be available for the match against Bologna or only for a potential final.

Regardless, his return would provide Inter Milan coach Cristian Chivu with an additional option, both on the right flank and in defense.

Darmian’s versatility allows him to operate as a wing-back or as a defensive braccetto, giving Bisseck the flexibility to play either centrally or on the left side of the back line.
