Inter’s injury nightmare: 36 setbacks and only one survivor in the squad
Inter Milan ravaged by injuries throughout the 2024 Season

For weeks, much was said about poor Bayern Munich, arriving at the quarter-finals against Inter Milan with many injuries. But what about Inter Milan? Throughout this season, the Nerazzurri have been literally ravaged by injuries.

A staggering 36 injury-related absences among Inter Milan players, with only one squad member spared. La Gazzetta dello Sport via Fcinter1908.it reviewed them all:
Goalkeepers
Yann Sommer
Even the Nerazzurri’s number one wasn’t spared: a fractured thumb between February and March forced him to miss 3 matches.
Raffaele Di Gennaro
The third-choice goalkeeper stayed sidelined for about 90 days due to a finger injury from December to March, missing an incredible 21 matches.
Defenders
Benjamin Pavard
A lengthy absence for the French defender too: 44 days out between late November and early January, missing 8 matches.
Yann Bisseck
A groin muscle issue sidelined the German center-back for about 15 days in January, making him miss 4 games.
Stefan De Vrij
The Dutchman missed part of preseason and the first two league matches due to a hamstring injury, then stopped again in March with a knee problem. Total: 40 days out, 4 matches missed.
Francesco Acerbi
The Inter Milan central defender, now back in top condition, missed the most time overall due to multiple injuries. Like De Vrij, he skipped preseason because of lingering pubalgia, then faced thigh and hamstring issues. Total: 76 days out, 18 matches missed.
Federico Dimarco
Muscle fatigue in September, flu, thigh problems: Dimarco also had several setbacks. Total: 8 matches missed over 41 days.
Carlos Augusto
The backup for Dimarco (and occasional center-back), had injury spells between October and December, and again between February and March. Total: 50 days injured, 11 matches missed.
Denzel Dumfries
Recently returned after a hamstring injury suffered in Bergamo — he missed 11 matches over 46 days, plus another missed due to illness. Total: 12 matches missed.
Matteo Darmian
The versatile right-wingback had two separate injury spells, between December and March. Total: 34 days out, 8 matches missed.
Midfielders
Hakan Calhanoglu
The Turkish midfielder admitted himself he had "never had so many injuries" in one season: adductor, groin, and calf issues. Total: 16 matches missed over about 50 days.
Kristjan Asllani
The Albanian has been more reliable physically, missing only 3 matches in around 12 days due to minor issues.
Nicolo' Barella
The midfield engine stopped early in the season (September to October) with an adductor injury, missing 6 matches, plus another 3 during a heavy December schedule. Total: 9 matches missed over roughly a month.
Davide Frattesi
Frequently bothered by muscle fatigue throughout the season, missing 4 matches in total.
Piotr Zielinski
Recently returned to action but had to sit out the preseason due to recurring muscle problems: calf, thigh, and calf again. Nearly 100 days out (92), missing 18 matches.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan
Inzaghi rarely rests the Armenian midfielder, but he had to sit out briefly in January with an adductor problem: 8 days out, 2 matches missed.
Nicola Zalewski
The January signing from Roma made an immediate impact but then got injured in February: 23 days out, 6 matches missed.
Forwards
Joaquín Correa
Injury issues have always plagued the Argentine forward. This season: a calf strain in January led to about a month out, missing 8 matches.
Lautaro Martínez
Fatigue, fever, muscle issues: even Lautaro’s season was interrupted by physical problems. In total, 4 matches missed.
Marcus Thuram
A crucial absence whenever he was out. The Frenchman faced muscle fatigue and ankle issues, missing 7 matches over about a month.
Mehdi Taremi
A unique case: often listed among the available players despite ongoing physical issues. His first year at Inter has been hampered by pubalgia, hamstring, and adductor troubles. He missed 5 matches due to injuries.
Marko Arnautovic
Like Frattesi, he had no major injuries but struggled with persistent physical problems: fatigue, back pain, muscle issues. He missed 4 matches in total.
Only one survivor.
A closer look at the squad reveals that only Alessandro Bastoni has so far managed to avoid missing any matches due to injury this season. Everyone else has had some physical setback.
