Lautaro Martinez continues to climb the club’s scoring charts, proving loyalty and leadership as he edges closer to the legends of Nerazzurri history

Over the years, Lautaro Martínez has proven his deep attachment to Inter Milan, earning his place among the club’s greats and reaching ever higher milestones. Now, the horizon is colored in black and blue — the legend is within sight.

The Argentine forward is becoming more than just a captain or a top scorer: he’s transforming into a symbol of the Nerazzurri, a modern-day flag bearer chasing the giants who built Inter Milan’s history.

According to Il Giorno via Fcinter1908, Lautaro is now within striking distance of the podium of Inter Milan’s all-time top scorers, with even the mythical Giuseppe Meazza no longer seeming untouchable.

Chasing history: from Mazzola to Meazza

The newspaper notes:

Lautaro Martínez has already overtaken Sandro Mazzola twice — once for goals in Europe’s top competition (23 to 17) and again for Serie A goals (118 to 116). There’s still one overall tally where he can surpass Mazzola, and he’s only three goals away: reaching 161 would put him level with the Nerazzurri legend, moving into fourth place.”

From there, only Roberto Boninsegna (171), Alessandro Altobelli (209), and Giuseppe Meazza (284) would remain ahead of him.

“Meazza’s record remains distant but not impossible,” Il Giorno continues, “both in terms of total goals and those scored in Serie A.”

A marathon toward immortality

Currently away on international duty with Argentina, Lautaro is expected back in Italy just before the big clash against Roma on October 18.

To reach Meazza’s legendary total, he would need 126 more goals, equivalent to six seasons averaging over 20 goals each — a demanding but not unrealistic challenge for a player as consistent and determined as Martínez.

In Serie A alone, there’s a 79-goal gap between Lautaro’s current total (158) and Meazza’s mark (197).
At his current scoring rate of 0.46 goals per game, he would need about four and a half seasons without missing a single match to bridge that gap.

The making of a modern icon

Whether or not he ultimately reaches Meazza, Lautaro Martínez has already entered Inter Milan’s pantheon. With leadership, passion, and relentless performance, the Argentine has become the face of a generation — a player whose legacy grows with every celebration in front of the Curva Nord.
