Twice ahead but unable to pull away, Inter Milan settle for a 2–2 draw as Bastoni and Dimarco analyse the result

Inter Milan were unable to fully capitalise on a golden opportunity. After AC Milan’s earlier draw away to Fiorentina, Chivu’s side had the chance to stretch their lead at the top of the table, but Napoli fought back twice at San Siro, holding the Nerazzurri to a 2–2 draw.

Despite taking the lead on two occasions, Inter Milan could not shake off Antonio Conte’s Napoli, who left the Meazza with a valuable point.

The standings remain unchanged: Inter Milan stay top, three points clear of AC Milan and four ahead of Napoli.

Bastoni: “We’ve made a mental step forward”

Twice ahead but unable to pull away, Inter Milan settle for a 2–2 draw as Bastoni and Dimarco analyse the result.

Speaking to DAZN via Fcinter1908, Alessandro Bastoni offered a balanced assessment of the draw:

“No wins against Juventus, Milan, and Napoli? There’s clearly something we need to fix, but I hold on to the mental step forward we made today.”

The Inter Milan defender acknowledged room for improvement, particularly on the goals conceded, but also praised the opposition’s quality:

“We could have done better on the goals, but we must recognise the quality of our opponents. Napoli have top-level players.”

Bastoni also defended the overall journey of the team this season:

“I value this first half of the season. You analyse every single match, which is normal, but I remember how we were perceived at the start of the year. Restarting every season after many years isn’t easy.”

On the goals conceded, he added:

“These are details. Some things could have been avoided, but otherwise matches would all end 0–0. Credit to them, Conte prepares these situations very well.”

Dimarco: “Important not to lose, we keep going”

Federico Dimarco, once again decisive on the scoresheet, also spoke post-match to Inter TV, stressing the importance of continuity over frustration.

“I don’t think this draw changes much. It was important not to lose, even though I wanted to win. The key thing is to keep going the way we are.”

On his goal, Dimarco said:

“Scoring is always nice. It wasn’t an easy position, with the goalkeeper closing the angle well. We’re following what the coach asks of us.”

The wing-back then shifted focus immediately to the next challenge:

“We must not think too far ahead. Now we focus on the match against Lecce, which will be very tough.”

Missed chance, but leadership intact

Inter Milan may feel they missed a chance to truly accelerate in the title race, especially after AC Milan’s slip earlier in the day.

Yet the draw against a strong Napoli side confirms both the team’s resilience and their current leadership in the standings.

The season remains long, the margins thin, and the message from San Siro is clear: Inter Milan are still in control, but direct clashes remain the next frontier to conquer.
