Luis Henrique not enough as Inter Milan seek right-back
Injuries leave Chivu with no alternatives, pushing Inter Milan back into the market
Injuries leave Chivu with no alternatives, pushing Inter Milan back into the market
The risk of overworking Luis Henrique is real, but Cristian Chivu currently has no choice. With Darmian and Dumfries sidelined, the Brazilian has become the only reliable option on the right flank for Milan-Inter.
The most logical solution? A return to the transfer market to provide the coach with reinforcement on the right side.
According to Tuttosport via Fcinter1908:
“Despite the coach appreciating the Brazilian’s performances, it was Chivu himself who approved the Cancelo operation. And although the Portuguese move fell through, the outlook has not changed.”
Behind the public denials, Inter Milan are still actively searching for a right-sided reinforcement, likely to be found among late market opportunities opening after the middle of the month.
Sporting director Piero Ausilio may also have a couple of wild cards to play, with Frattesi and De Vrij potentially included in swap deals to unlock negotiations.
Dumfries’ timeline and a packed schedule

For now, Chivu is taking things one match at a time. Darmian was not called up but could return against Lecce, though the coach admits patience will be needed after such a long absence.
As for Dumfries, Chivu confirmed earlier reports:
“He is currently in the Netherlands undergoing rehabilitation with our medical staff. At the end of January he will return to Appiano and begin athletic work. I hope he will be available by the end of February.”
However, the schedule already presents nine upcoming matches, not counting the possibility of Champions League playoff games to reach the round of 16.
For this reason, Inter Milan have decided that signing a right wing-back is a necessity, not a luxury.
Luis Henrique has delivered commitment and tactical discipline, but the season’s demands require depth, rotation, and immediate solutions.
