Serie A 2025/26 fixture rules announced by Lega Serie A

Asymmetry, derby scheduling, European competition protection, and no winter break are among the key rules shaping next season’s Serie A calendar

Lega Serie A has published the official guidelines for the 2025/26 Serie A Enilive season calendar

ASYMMETRY: Once again in the 2025/26 season, the order of matches in the first half of the season will differ from the return leg. 

There will be at least eight matchdays between the first and second meetings against the same opponent. 

This approach helps accommodate an increasing number of scheduling constraints, including public safety concerns, UEFA competitions, local events, club requests, and the desire to maximize TV audiences and stadium attendance.

DERBY MATCHES: All local derbies will be scheduled on different matchdays and not on the opening weekend or midweek round 9.

MATCHES BETWEEN CLUBS IN UEFA COMPETITIONS: Clubs participating in the UEFA Champions League will not face clubs in the Europa League or Conference League on matchdays 5, 22, 26, 29, 32, and 35 — dates that fall between “back-to-back” UEFA fixtures.

MIDWEEK MATCHDAYS: Set for rounds 9 and 19.

Derby days, midweek rounds, and Olympic Stadium exceptions

ALTERNATING HOME/AWAY MATCHES: Alternation is expected for the following derby pairs: Inter Milan-Milan, Lazio-Roma, Juventus-Torino, Fiorentina-Pisa, except where scheduling conflicts prevent it. 

Specific exceptions apply early in the season for Fiorentina and Pisa (due to ongoing stadium renovations) and for Inter Milan and Milan during the period when Stadio Giuseppe Meazza will host the Opening Ceremony of the 2026 Winter Olympics on February 6.

NO WINTER BREAK: The 2025/26 Serie A season runs from August 24, 2025, to May 24, 2026, and will not feature a traditional winter break. 

The league will pause only for the four FIFA international windows (Sept 7, Oct 12, Nov 16, Mar 29).

Matches will be played over the holiday period on Dec 21, Dec 28, Jan 3, and there will be a midweek round on Jan 6.
