After Inter Milan’s heavy defeat to PSG in the Champions League final, club President and CEO Giuseppe Marotta reflected on the loss, the season, and the club’s progress
At the end of the Champions League final lost by Inter Milan against Paris Saint-Germain, Nerazzurri President and CEO Giuseppe Marotta offered his thoughts on the match and the club’s journey in Europe.
“It was a disappointing evening. We faced an opponent who outclassed us in every aspect,” Marotta admitted.
“The defeat is deserved, that’s evident, regardless of the scoreline. However, this should not overshadow the season we’ve had—just think of the journey we’ve made in the Champions League.”

Marotta acknowledged the strength of their opponents but highlighted the pride in reaching the final: “We played against a very strong team, and we are deeply sorry for the many fans who came here to support us.
Reaching this stage—the Final—was incredibly tough. We got here on merit, defeating Bayern Munich and Barcelona along the way.”
He continued, “We fell, and we did so in a fragile way, but I want to thank the staff, the coach, and everyone involved.
A 59-game season like this proves that this team belongs at this level. We’ve lost, and this chapter closes here.”
No alibis, no regrets: Marotta praises team despite final blow
When asked about coach Simone Inzaghi’s future, Marotta was clear: “Regarding Inzaghi, nothing changes.
As I’ve said before, he has one more year on his contract and over the past four years he’s proven to be fully capable of his role.
He is highly professional, and one bad night doesn’t erase his accomplishments. We’ll meet to discuss, regardless of the final result.”
Marotta also addressed the broader context of European football: “We’re not making excuses, but Italy no longer has the financial power it once had.
We cannot compete with clubs that manage unlimited budgets like PSG. But Italian football—our 'Made in Italy'—can still achieve important results.
We’ve reached this stage twice recently thanks to the skill of our coach and players.
Despite the outcome tonight, we played a leading role. And sometimes, stronger teams win. That’s football.”
