Inter Milan search for a Dumfries backup on the right wing

The Inter Milan side struggles to find a reliable replacement for Dumfries, with recent signings failing to make an impact

Inter Milan have been searching for years for a player who can guarantee solid performance on the right flank. 

One of the team’s weaknesses is the lack of a backup for Dumfries. It’s not a new problem for Inter Milan: the management has tried for years to invest in that area of the field, but a viable solution has yet to emerge. Luis Henrique is just the latest example, as recalled by Corriere dello Sport via Fcinter1908:

"What makes Dumfries' return so crucial for Inter Milan is the awareness that, as of today, there is no valid alternative in the squad. 

Not that the management hasn’t tried to strengthen the right wing, even with significant investment."

"Luis Henrique, bought for €25 million (£21.5 million) this summer and still a mystery, is only the latest player called upon to fill the deputy role: before the Brazilian, there was Juan Cuadrado, who arrived on a free transfer after leaving Juventus, and Tajon Buchanan. 

The Colombian, who underwent Achilles tendon surgery, was sidelined for around 4 months during his Inter Milan spell. 

In total, he missed 31 matches due to injury. The Canadian, brought in hurriedly in January 2024, never managed to impress under Inzaghi in his first six months, and the following summer he even suffered a tibia fracture with the national team. 

Upon his return, he still failed to convince, forcing Inter Milan to send him elsewhere.
So far, Dumfries’ backups have not had much luck. 

It almost seems like a curse, which Chivu has decided to fight by deploying Carlos Augusto on the right in recent games. Darmian’s return will also help. However, further reinforcements will soon be necessary."
