Inter Milan could face midfield revolution this summer

Mkhitaryan exit likely as Calhanoglu, Diouf and Frattesi futures unclear

A major reshuffle could be on the horizon in midfield at Inter Milan this summer. According to Calciomercato.com via Fcinter1908, several situations remain unresolved and could lead to significant changes in the squad.

Mkhitaryan set to leave

The most certain departure appears to be Henrikh Mkhitaryan. The Armenian midfielder’s contract expires in June and, as things stand, an exit at the end of the season looks almost inevitable.

Calhanoglu future linked to Turkey

One of the key questions concerns Hakan Calhanoglu. The midfielder has never hidden his desire to eventually finish his career in Turkey, and Galatasaray could once again attempt to bring him back to his homeland.

Last summer the Turkish club made an offer that was considered too low by Inter Milan’s management, frustrating sporting director Piero Ausilio. 

With just one year left on Calhanoglu’s contract next summer, the situation could become even more delicate if renewal talks remain stalled.

Doubts over Diouf

Another situation under scrutiny is that of Andy Diouf, who joined Inter Milan from RC Lens for around €25 million (£21 million, $28 million).

Despite the investment, coach Cristian Chivu has rarely used him in his natural midfield role, preferring to deploy him as a right-sided player. 

That decision has raised questions about the manager’s trust in the player and his long-term role in the squad.

Frattesi still seeking a move

The future of Davide Frattesi is also uncertain. The Italian midfielder has been looking for more opportunities elsewhere for several transfer windows.

So far, however, Inter Milan have not received concrete offers to buy him outright. 

The best proposal was a loan deal with an option to buy, which the club rejected after realizing they would not be able to secure a move for Curtis Jones from Liverpool FC.

Big decisions ahead for Inter Milan

With several contracts and roles still unresolved, Inter Milan could face a significant overhaul in midfield during the upcoming summer transfer window.
