Akanji

Cristian Chivu welcomes Manuel Akanji as a new defender. At the same time, Benjamin Pavard leaves Inter Milan to join Roberto De Zerbi’s Marseille

Inter Milan have officially announced the arrival of Manuel Akanji, who has joined from Manchester City.

The Swiss international’s contract has been deposited with the league, making him a full member of Cristian Chivu’s squad.

The deal was struck in the final hours of the transfer window. Inter Milan secured Akanji on a loan worth €2 million (£1.7m) with a buy option set at €15 million (£12.8m).

However, that option only becomes mandatory under strict conditions: Akanji must play at least 50% of matches and Inter Milan must also win the Scudetto.

The signing ends weeks of speculation, but it also reveals a dramatic twist. According to Sky Sport via Fcinter1908, AC Milan, coached by Massimiliano Allegri, had also pursued Akanji as a defensive reinforcement.

The defender himself, however, turned down the Rossoneri’s advances because he was waiting for a club competing in the Champions League. With AC Milan not qualified, Akanji delayed his decision until the final day before committing to Inter Milan.

While Akanji arrives, another key defender is leaving. Benjamin Pavard is set to join Roberto De Zerbi’s Marseille. As reported by FCInter1908.it, the deal was concluded today: a loan worth €2.5 million (£2.1m) with a buy option fixed at €15 million (£12.8m).

For Inter Milan, this double move reshapes the defensive unit. Chivu gains a flexible, experienced defender in Akanji, but also loses Pavard, a cornerstone of the back line. Balancing the squad’s stability while preparing for the long season ahead will now be one of Chivu’s most pressing challenges.
