After the final whistle at San Siro, Cristian Chivu addressed the media to assess Inter Milan’s convincing Coppa Italia victory over Venezia
After the final whistle at the Meazza, Cristian Chivu spoke in his post-match press conference following Inter Milan’s 5–1 Coppa Italia win over Venezia. The coach expressed satisfaction with both the performance and the attitude shown by his team.
“We’re happy with the performance, with the attitude and the seriousness everyone brought onto the pitch.
We’re pleased for the boys who played their first match; they work hard and make themselves available for the group when needed.
There are others who have had the chance to be with us, though not tonight because the Under-23s were also playing.

I’m happy as well for Diouf playing 90 minutes in a role that isn’t his, but he accepted it. He knows the work he’s doing will pay off.
He has been patient and intelligent in learning from others. The group welcomes newcomers well—they’re serious, committed, and eager to improve every day.”
Martinez’s important step forward
Chivu then discussed goalkeeper Martinez’s emotional recovery and his return to the squad:
“We all stayed close to him because we understood the moment. It’s not easy to overcome something like this.
For his emotional state, it’s better to ask him directly. We know what he’s going through, and we’re happy to have seen him back with us.
After the match I didn’t even have time to ask how he was—we were rushed out of the dressing room immediately. He knows how to work and always moves forward with his head held high.”
Frattesi’s hidden injury issue
The coach also shed light on Frattesi’s physical situation:
“He was still dealing with what happened with the procedure he had this summer; he pushed the timing a bit.
We needed to manage him carefully, but he always made himself available despite some discomfort.
We appreciated and accepted that. We know he can do better—tonight he showed what he can offer this team. He needs to regain full condition and mental confidence. We’re all happy for him and for the way he’s responding. We’re aware he can still improve.”
Four decisive forwards in 18 matches
Chivu praised the balance and competitiveness within his attacking department:
“The credit goes to those who chose them and brought them here, and to the players themselves for adapting so quickly.
Credit also to their teammates, who help them, just as they help others. Sometimes a tricky situation emerges—an attacker who doesn’t score for a few days becomes a problem.
But they know they can improve. What pleases me most is that they’re never satisfied; they work at maximum intensity every day.
Bonny came from three days with a fever; maybe some negative thoughts passed through his mind, but they disappeared. We need everyone’s contribution in such a long season.”
