Nicolò Barella and Marcus Thuram fire Inter Milan to victory with decisive goals
Two flashes of brilliance lit up the night at San Siro.
Nicolò Barella and Marcus Thuram turned the game on its head in just over three minutes, guiding Inter Milan to a convincing 3-0 win over Cagliari.
What had been a potentially tricky contest after the first half suddenly transformed into a celebration, with fans staying in the stands long after the final whistle to enjoy a crucial victory.
Records and personal milestones
Thuram’s goal carried extra weight.
The French forward has now reached 11 league goals, becoming only the third foreign player in Inter Milan history to hit double digits for three consecutive seasons after István Nyers and Zlatan Ibrahimović.
For Barella, scoring against Cagliari always has a special meaning. The Sardinian midfielder has now been involved in at least one goal in each of his last five league matches, registering two goals and three assists in that span.
Barella: “This belongs to the whole team”

After the match, Barella reflected on the atmosphere and the team’s journey:
“It’s great to feel this enthusiasm from the fans. We know how much it means to do well, especially after last season. It taught us a lot and now we need to win.
The MVP award isn’t mine or Thuram’s, it belongs to everyone. Stats help, but at the end of the season they don’t mean much. What matters is giving everything.
I also want to congratulate Josep Martinez, it wasn’t easy after what happened, but he deserves this performance.”
Barella also admitted the season has had its ups and downs, but insisted his commitment has never dropped:
“I’ve always given 100% for the team, even if sometimes that 100% felt like less compared to other years. Now I feel great and I want to help as much as I can.”
He then dedicated his goal to Gennaro Gattuso, calling him “one of the best people” he has met in football.
Thuram: “We just need to keep winning”
Marcus Thuram kept things simple and focused:
“Nothing has really changed for me, it’s just about moments and situations. It’s good for Inter Milan that things are going this way now.
Until it’s mathematically done, we have to keep winning and collecting points.
We had a difficult moment, but we talked, we enjoy being together and playing together, and today you could see it on the pitch.
Right now we’re living a beautiful moment. Winning here, in this stadium, with this atmosphere, is something special.”
A burst of goals, a surge of confidence, and a team rediscovering its rhythm.
Inter Milan march forward, carried by their leaders and lifted by a night where everything clicked into place.
