“Honestly, I’ve been waiting for this goal for a long time. Finally it came, thanks to hard work which always pays off in one way or another. I’m so happy. Only the Champions League goal is missing at San Siro? That’s fine, tonight I’m happy; we’ll worry about the rest later.”

He also praised his coach, Cristian Chivu:

“I saw the coach in the middle of the celebration after the goal. Something similar happened in Primavera. We have a bond of few words but full of affection. He may not speak much, but I know he’s always there. We grew together, me as a player and him as a coach: it’s an important relationship, he means a lot to me.”

Esposito concluded by looking ahead to the title race:

“We’re all fired up: being first doesn’t scare us, it’s what we all want. Every game is tough, and the season is very long, but we want to stay up there.”
