Bastoni addresses controversy ahead of Inter Milan vs Bodo Glimt

Alessandro Bastoni clarifies Juventus incident and condemns threats to his family

On the eve of Inter Milan’s Champions League playoff first leg against Bodo Glimt, Alessandro Bastoni stepped forward in the pre match press conference to address the episode that followed Inter Milan versus Juventus.

“I wanted to be here to clarify my version of events since people have been talking about me for 48 hours,” Bastoni began. 

“I felt the contact with Kalulu and I exaggerated it to try to gain an advantage. I say it without any problem. I regret doing it, but it is also not right that I am defined by this single episode.”

The defender underlined that the incident does not reflect his career. “I have played more than 300 matches and this is the first time people talk about me for something like this. I have seen a lot of falsehood and hypocrisy, even fake moralism. 

I heard comments from insiders that make no sense. It is part of our job. I thank those who told the truth, that Bastoni was stupid, that he made a mistake, but we must also have the right and the duty to admit it.”

“Threats to my family must be condemned”

Bastoni also revealed the personal impact of the backlash. “From a professional point of view it has not affected me much. I am able to manage it. 

I am sorry for myself first of all, but especially for my wife and my daughter. My wife received death threats, which is unacceptable and must be condemned. I am also sorry for La Penna.”

Despite the controversy, the Inter Milan defender insists he is mentally ready for the European challenge. “Mentally I feel very good. Something similar happened in reverse when the penalty was given to Liverpool. 

Chivu told me not to give the referee the chance to make a decision. There is a lot of desire to get back on the pitch. It has not compromised me mentally or physically.”

With Inter Milan set to take the field in Norway, Bastoni aims to turn the page and focus solely on the decisive European night ahead.
