Akanji

Akanji: “Those who come off the bench can decide the game”

Speaking to DAZN via Fcinter1908 after the victory away to Lecce, Manuel Akanji shared his thoughts on Inter Milan’s performance and the importance of squad depth.

“It’s very important, when you don’t start the match, to stay fully focused,” the defender explained. “We talked about it after the last game, that the players coming on can decide the match, and that’s exactly what happened.”

Asked whether there are “two different Inter Milans” between domestic and European competitions, Akanji rejected the idea. “I don’t think so. The matches we lost in the Champions League were against big teams. Against Bodo it wasn’t good at all. But we try to give our best in every game.”

Praise for Dimarco

Akanji also had warm words for teammate Federico Dimarco, when asked to rank him among his former teammates.

“It’s difficult when you think about all the players I’ve played with.

He’s definitely in the top three. His crosses and his shots are incredible. He already has many assists. He’s surely in the top three, maybe even at the top. But I don’t want to disrespect anyone else.”

After a demanding week, Inter Milan leave Salento with three valuable points and a reminder that depth and focus can tilt tight matches in their favour.
