Tuttosport outlines Inter Milan’s complex injury situation as key players approach uncertain return dates

The injury situation at Inter Milan remains delicate, with Tuttosport via Fcinter1908 providing the latest updates on several key players.

“Francesco Acerbi will only return to play an official match for Inter Milan in the new year. His 2025 ended on Tuesday against Liverpool, and yesterday’s medical tests confirmed a lesion to the right hamstring,” the newspaper reports.

Acerbi’s setback, Calhanoglu’s short stop and Dumfries’ alarming timeline

The expected recovery time is at least one month. In theory, the defender could attempt to return for Inter Milan–Napoli on 10 January or Inter Milan–Lecce four days later.

But given his history, his nearly 38 years of age and the medical staff’s intention to take no risks, his comeback might drift even further, possibly into February.

Tuttosport also recalls how last year Acerbi was injured against Roma on 20 October, returned on 10 November against Napoli, only to suffer a new setback in Verona 13 days later, resulting in a total three-month absence.

The situation is far less worrying for Hakan Calhanoglu, who will miss only Sunday’s match against Genoa and is expected to be called up for the Supercoppa.

The aim is for him to play the final, should Inter Milan beat Bologna in the semifinal.

A similar outlook applies to Matteo Darmian. Out since mid-October, he will soon begin his reconditioning phase and is expected to join the squad on the flight to Saudi Arabia.

The biggest concern is Denzel Dumfries. The former PSV full-back, injured against Lazio, has also undergone treatment in the Netherlands but continues to feel pain in his ankle.

What was initially described as a minor issue has already ruled him out of six matches with Inter Milan, plus two with his national team. According to Tuttosport, he may not return before 2026.
