Inter Milan are actively working on plans for next season, with the goalkeeper position set to be one of the key areas of change. The departure of Yann Sommer now appears inevitable, meaning the club will be looking to appoint a new first-choice goalkeeper, while also assessing the future of Josep Martínez.

During Sky Sport’s Calciomercato L’Originale, transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio revealed that Emiliano “Dibu” Martínez, currently at Aston Villa, is among the names being monitored by Inter Milan.

Martínez admired, but financial balance remains crucial

According to Di Marzio, Inter Milan have drawn up a shortlist of goalkeepers, and Martínez features prominently on it. 

Contacts have taken place in recent hours, with the club making it clear that the Argentine World Cup winner is considered a concrete option.

However, any potential move would depend heavily on financial conditions. Martínez currently earns a significant salary at Aston Villa, and Inter Milan have no intention of exceeding their established wage structure. 

The key question, therefore, is whether the 31-year-old would be willing to accept a reduced salary in order to make the switch to Serie A.

For Inter Milan, "Dibu" Martínez represents an opportunity rather than a certainty: a high-profile, experienced goalkeeper who fits the sporting profile, but only if economic parameters can be respected.
