Belgian daily HLN details the buy-back options and resale clauses in favor of Inter Milan for Aleksandar Stankovic

Aleksandar Stankovic once again took center stage for Club Brugge, delivering a standout performance with one goal and two assists in the final Champions League group-stage match, a convincing 3–0 win over Marseille.

His display did not go unnoticed, and interest around the Serbian midfielder continues to grow.

Belgian newspaper HLN via Fcinter1908 has now revealed key details about the special clauses Inter Milan negotiated during last summer’s transfer, clauses that give the Nerazzurri a significant advantage over Europe’s top clubs.

Growing interest, but Inter Milan remain calm

According to HLN, several foreign clubs were present at the Jan Breydel Stadium on Wednesday night, including scouts from Tottenham, Atalanta and RB Leipzig.

Inter Milan were also represented, with Leonardo Simoni, the club’s head scout, attending the match in Bruges.

Despite the increasing attention around Stankovic, Inter Milan are not overly concerned. To understand why, one must go back to the summer of 2025. At the end of July, Club Brugge signed Stankovic from Inter Milan for 9.5 million euros (around £8.1 million).

Buy-back options and resale clauses favor Inter Milan

Within the transfer agreement, Inter Milan inserted several strategic clauses that now secure them a clear edge.

First, Inter Milan negotiated a buy-back option in their favor. To reassure Club Brugge supporters, this clause cannot be activated immediately.

There are two specific windows in which Inter Milan can bring Stankovic back to Milan at a pre-agreed price:

1 July 2026: buy-back price set at 23 million euros (approximately £19.6 million)

1 July 2027: buy-back price rises to 25 million euros (around £21.3 million)

In both cases, Inter Milan must formally notify Club Brugge of their intention to activate the clause between 1 and 15 June of the relevant year.

In addition, until June 2027, Club Brugge are contractually obliged to inform Inter Milan whenever they accept an offer from another club for Stankovic.

Even if Inter Milan decide not to activate the buy-back option, the club would still benefit financially from a future sale.

Should Stankovic be transferred to another club before 1 July 2027, Inter Milan are entitled to 50 percent of the capital gain over the original £8.1 million fee paid by Bruges.

For example, if Club Brugge were to sell Stankovic this summer for 19.5 million euros (about £16.6 million), Inter Milan would receive 5 million euros (roughly £4.3 million) from that deal.

After 1 July 2027, the resale percentage drops sharply from 50 percent to 12.5 percent, a substantial difference that underlines just how well Inter Milan positioned themselves in the original agreement.

A deal crafted with foresight, patience and leverage, one that ensures Inter Milan remain firmly in control of Aleksandar Stankovic’s future.
