What's happening to Inter Milan? Only time will provide the right answers

Key absences and a packed schedule take their toll on Inzaghi’s squad.

Inter Milan hadn't lost two consecutive matches in two years, and even back then, they failed to score in both games (0-1 against Juventus and Fiorentina). 

However, those defeats came in the league, with Napoli already on their way to the Scudetto, and Inzaghi focusing on the Coppa Italia and Champions League. 

To find two losses in such quick succession as the current ones (against Bologna and Milan in the Cup), we have to go back to November 2022, just before the World Cup. The absences of Dumfries, Zielinski, and Thuram had an impact.

"Time will tell what interpretation we can give to the back-to-back defeats against Bologna and in the derby against Milan in the Cup. 

One point of reflection comes from the simultaneous absences of Dumfries, Zielinski, and Thuram.

It’s clear that compared to last season, Inter Milan have faced several periods where the injury list was long, which didn’t allow Simone Inzaghi to give some players the needed rest. 

It's inevitable that now, after more than 50 matches, fatigue is starting to take its toll. The upcoming games against Roma and Barcelona will reveal whether the two consecutive losses were just an isolated case or a sign of deeper issues.
