Growth, courage and realism after a tough European night

After the 3-1 defeat to Arsenal at San Siro, Inter Milan head coach Cristian Chivu addressed the media to analyse a demanding Champions League clash against one of Europe’s most in-form sides.

Despite the disappointment, the Nerazzurri coach focused less on concern and more on the broader picture, highlighting the team’s evolving mentality and competitive edge against elite opposition.

Chivu: “I’m not orried, I look at the work ahead”

Chivu: “I’m not orried, I look at the work ahead”.

Chivu was clear in his opening assessment:

“I’m never worried, I focus on what we have to do. We knew it wouldn’t be easy. I take positives from our growth in intensity, approach and courage, and from the way we try to match English teams physically and mentally.”

The Inter Milan coach acknowledged Arsenal’s quality, particularly their pace and movement in the final third:

“We knew Arsenal’s strength when they surround you, especially their quality and speed of execution. The way they attack space and make those runs is impressive.”

Missed chances and the decisive factor

While Inter Milan managed to create opportunities when duels were won, Chivu admitted the decisive difference lay in efficiency:

“In the few moments when we won our duels, we managed to get into dangerous areas, but unfortunately we lacked lucidity and decisiveness. In the Champions League you don’t get many chances, and you must take them.”

Chivu also paid tribute to the opposition:

“Arsenal deserved the win. They were more clinical, and we congratulate them.”

Looking ahead without fear

The possibility of Champions League playoffs does not unsettle the Inter Milan manager:

“How much would the playoffs weigh? Two matches more or less changes little for me. We don’t have to make excuses. Other teams will face the same situation.”

Chivu dismissed complaints about fixture congestion, underlining the mentality he wants from his squad:

“We shouldn’t complain about playing every three days. Arsenal do the same, like many teams in Europe, and I don’t see anyone complaining. I won’t either. This is the mentality we need. If we have to play two more matches, we’ll be ready.”

For Inter Milan, the defeat closes one chapter but opens another. The road in Europe may be longer, but under Chivu’s guidance, the Nerazzurri remain focused, resilient, and prepared for whatever comes next.
