Inter Milan monitoring Cristian Romero as defensive target
Cristian Romero could emerge as a surprise target for Inter Milan, with reports suggesting the Tottenham defender would be open to returning to Serie A under the right conditions
Inter Milan could be presented with an unexpected opportunity in the transfer market as Tottenham defender Cristian Romero is once again being linked with a move back to Serie A.
The Argentine centre-back is among the defenders admired by the Nerazzurri as Cristian Chivu continues searching for an experienced addition to strengthen his back line before the new season.
Romero would welcome a return to Italy
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Italian transfer expert Alfredo Pedullà claimed Romero would be interested in returning to Italy despite receiving interest from clubs abroad.
The 27-year-old established himself as one of Serie A's best defenders during his spell with Atalanta before earning a high-profile move to Tottenham, where he has become a regular starter and one of the Premier League's most respected centre-backs.
According to Pedullà, the player's willingness to return could become an important factor if Inter Milan decide to pursue the deal.
Price remains the biggest obstacle

The biggest challenge, however, is Tottenham's asking price.
Pedullà believes any realistic negotiation would first require the valuation to fall from the current €50 million (approximately $59 million).
Inter Milan would also likely need to negotiate a creative deal structure, potentially involving instalments or other financial mechanisms, to make the transfer compatible with the club's budget and ownership guidelines.
The journalist also suggested that Romero is not considered completely untouchable under Tottenham's current project, which could leave the door open if circumstances change later in the transfer window.
For now, Inter Milan continue evaluating several defensive targets, including Trevoh Chalobah, Jhon Lucumí and other experienced options.
Romero remains one of the most ambitious possibilities, but any serious move will depend on Tottenham lowering their demands and on the Nerazzurri finding the financial conditions to complete what would be one of the biggest defensive transfers of the summer.
As the market develops over the coming days, Romero is a name worth watching closely if Inter Milan decide to make a major investment at the heart of their defence.
