Inter Milan reignite interest in Rodrigo De Paul for Summer midfield boost

The Argentine playmaker is once again on Inter Milan's radar as the club plans summer reinforcements

As Inter Milan prepare for the upcoming summer transfer window, a familiar name has resurfaced in their list of midfield targets—Rodrigo De Paul. 

According to TuttoMercatoWeb (TMW) via Fcinter1908.it, the Nerazzurri have made an initial inquiry for the Argentine midfielder currently at Atlético Madrid. 

This is not the first time De Paul has been linked with a move to the Serie A giants, but this time, the conditions may be more favorable for a deal.

De Paul, 30, has just one year left on his contract with the Spanish club, making this summer the last real opportunity for Atlético to cash in on him. 

With Inter Milan looking to strengthen Simone Inzaghi’s squad ahead of a season that will include another Champions League campaign and the defense of their Serie A title, De Paul offers experience, creativity, and versatility in midfield.

De Paul’s stats, contract situation, and role at Atlético Madrid

In the 2024–2025 season, Rodrigo De Paul has made 47 appearances in all competitions for Atlético Madrid, registering 3 goals and 9 assists. 

Despite not being a guaranteed starter in every match, he has played a crucial rotational role in Diego Simeone’s system, showcasing his technical skill, tactical awareness, and ability to contribute both offensively and defensively.

A graduate of Racing Club's academy in Argentina, De Paul first moved to Europe with Valencia in 2014 before really making a name for himself at Udinese between 2016 and 2021. 

His performances in Serie A earned him a €35 million (approx. £29.4 million) move to Atlético, where he has since won the Spanish Super Cup and been a regular in Argentina’s national team, including their victorious 2022 FIFA World Cup campaign.

Known for his dynamism, work rate, and incisive passing, De Paul could offer Inter Milan a valuable mix of flair and grit in the midfield, possibly taking on a role similar to that of Nicolò Barella or Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

While no formal negotiations have been confirmed, sources indicate that a contact between the clubs or player representatives may occur in the coming weeks.
