Piotr Zielinski’s future at Inter Milan hangs in the balance as the club rethinks its midfield strategy after a disappointing debut season

Piotr Zielinski could leave Inter Milan during this summer transfer window. The former Napoli midfielder has failed to meet expectations in his first season in Milan, and now a departure is possible.

Here's what Pasquale Guarro reported for calciomercato.com via Fcinter1908 regarding the Polish player:

"Without beating around the bush, it’s fair to say Zielinski (along with Taremi) has been the real disappointment of the last transfer window, and it’s no coincidence that many market rumors are now beginning to revolve around him."

The first thing to clarify is that

Piotr Zielinski

is comfortable in Milan and is not actively seeking a new club to relaunch his career.

Rather, it's Inter Milan that is considering its options—especially with high competition in midfield and a new manager who would prefer players with slightly different characteristics: more defensive-minded than attacking.

In short, even after just one season, if a concrete opportunity arises, Inter Milan would seriously consider selling Zielinski.

His salary is high, and his profile doesn’t quite fit with the new project led by Oaktree.

In fact, it’s very likely that if the American ownership had taken over earlier, they would not have allowed the club to proceed with deals for either Zielinski or Taremi.

But the past can’t be changed. The focus now is on the present and future.

Inter Milan weighs major midfield shake-up as Zielinski’s role no longer guaranteed—Saudi clubs on alert

That’s why Inter Milan is exploring whether any opportunities might open up from Saudi Arabia, as there have been no approaches so far from Italy or elsewhere in Europe.

The excitement surrounding the Polish midfielder has faded. While many still appreciate his technical qualities, his inconsistency has been an issue—something that San Siro has seen derail many otherwise talented players. Few have managed to change the narrative and win the crowd over.

Brozovic succeeded: after being booed off, he sarcastically applauded the whole stadium and eventually became a fan favorite.

This is to say that while rare exceptions exist, San Siro often doesn't forgive. For Zielinski, the upcoming season will be decisive—a "now or never" moment. And right now, his summer exit is more than just a rumor.
