Inter Milan kicks off its Club World Cup campaign against Monterrey on Wednesday — but several injury concerns cloud the squad

Inter Milan is preparing to make its debut at the Club World Cup against Monterrey: the match is set for Wednesday night at 3 a.m. Italian time.
Corriere dello Sport via Fcinter1908.it breaks down Cristian Chivu’s early formation dilemmas.

First U.S. training and key absences for Inter Milan’s opener

Yesterday, the Nerazzurri held their first training session in the U.S. at the University of California campus, though the squad isn’t yet complete.

National team players begin reporting today, while Azzurri stars Barella, Bastoni, and Dimarco are enjoying a couple of extra rest days after linking up with Italy immediately following the Champions League final.

At least four players are unlikely to feature in the first match due to physical issues in recent days: Calhanoglu, Bisseck (who may miss at least two games), Pio Esposito, and Zielinski. All will be reassessed by the medical staff this week to determine recovery times.

Chivu must also quickly decide how to replace Calhanoglu at the base of midfield, since the Turkish international has long been the engine of Inter Milan’s play.

Inter Milan kicks off its Club World Cup campaign against Monterrey on Wednesday — but several injury concerns cloud the squad.

The coach will have to choose between starting Asllani or adapting someone like Barella to the role.

It seems unlikely that Zielinski will be available due to calf discomfort picked up in his last match with Poland.

Chivu is expected to test different tactical options, also to inform transfer window decisions, especially as players like Asllani could be on the move.

Debut kit revealed: white jersey with global message

For the debut on Tuesday against Mexico’s Monterrey (3 a.m. on June 18 in Italy), Inter Milan will wear their new away kit — unveiled yesterday in collaboration with Nike.

The shirt is white, features traditional accent colors, and includes the motto “Brothers and Sisters of the World” printed inside the collar.

The classic Nerazzurri home kit will be worn in the second match, scheduled for June 21 against Urawa Reds, as announced last week.
