Defensive reinforcements and new goalkeeper among priorities

Inter Milan are expected to face a busy summer transfer window as the club prepares to reshape the squad ahead of next season.

Several contracts are nearing expiration and some players are entering the later stages of their careers, making changes almost inevitable.

According to Tuttosport via Fcinter1908, the Nerazzurri’s management are already working on potential reinforcements, particularly in defence.

Several departures expected

At least four defenders are expected to leave when their contracts expire at the end of the season. The players set to depart include: Yann Sommer, Francesco Acerbi, Stefan de Vrij and Matteo Darmian.

There are also two separate situations to consider. Third-choice goalkeeper Raffaele Di Gennaro could extend his contract and continue in his current role, partly because he qualifies as a homegrown player for squad lists in Serie A and the UEFA Champions League.

Meanwhile, Manuel Akanji is expected to be redeemed from Manchester City regardless of the €15 million (£12 million, $17 million) obligation tied to Inter Milan winning the Serie A title.

Defensive core for Inter Milan future

Looking ahead, the defensive trio of Yann Bisseck, Akanji and Alessandro Bastoni is expected to form the backbone of Inter Milan’s defence in the 2026–27 season.

vicario
The main target remains Guglielmo Vicario, although several other candidates are being evaluated.

However, the club will need a new starting goalkeeper. The main target remains Guglielmo Vicario, although several other candidates are being evaluated, including: Bento Krepski, Andriy Lunin, Elia Caprile, Noah Atubolu and Martin Harnicek.

Defensive targets identified

Sporting directors Piero Ausilio and Dario Baccin have also identified several defensive options to strengthen the squad.

Among the most appreciated profiles are: Joel Ordonez of Club Brugge, Tarik Muharemovic of Sassuolo and Oumar Solet of Udinese.

Muharemovic, a left-footed defender, could provide ideal cover for Bastoni and allow Carlos Augusto to focus more consistently on his wing-back role as an alternative to Federico Dimarco.

Celik also on the radar

Another interesting option is Zeki Celik of AS Roma. The versatile defender is approaching the end of his contract and has been proposed as a potential successor to Darmian.

However, Inter Milan could face competition from Juventus for the Turkish international.
