Mkhitaryan, Darmian, Acerbi and de Vrij could all depart as Inter Milan begin reshaping their squad for next season

Inter Milan are already looking ahead to the 2026 season. According to Calciomercato.com via Fcinter1908, four key players are nearing the end of their contracts and could be set to leave San Siro next summer: Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Matteo Darmian, Francesco Acerbi and Stefan de Vrij.

Mkhitaryan, Darmian, Acerbi and de Vrij could all depart as Inter Milan begin reshaping their squad for next season.

This strategic shift aligns with Oaktree’s financial directives, aimed at reducing the overall wage bill and rejuvenating the squad. Age and salary considerations are at the heart of the decision, as the ownership group prioritizes sustainability and long-term planning over short-term continuity.

De Vrij could be the exception

Among the players whose contracts expire in 2026, there may be one exception: Stefan de Vrij.

The Dutch defender’s recent performances have been impressive, and at 33, he still appears capable of maintaining a high level for another couple of seasons. This could prompt Inter Milan to reconsider a short-term renewal, even though the general policy points toward parting ways with all expiring players.

Frattesi’s situation: renewal on hold

Beyond the expiring contracts, Calciomercato.com also highlights another name under internal discussion: Davide Frattesi.

The midfielder, whose deal runs until 2028, was promised an improved contract during the summer when he decided to stay in Milan.

However, Oaktree has yet to give the green light to any raise, preferring to assess Frattesi’s real impact before making a financial commitment.

Meanwhile, coach Cristian Chivu is reportedly reconsidering his tactical setup, a move that could affect Frattesi’s role and playing time.

If the current uncertainty persists, a potential sale next summer cannot be ruled out, especially if the player’s frustrations resurface.

A Summer of change ahead

Inter Milan’s next transfer window could mark the start of a new cycle — one that balances the club’s ambition with financial discipline.

With several veterans nearing the end of their contracts and younger talents pushing for opportunities, the Nerazzurri’s rebuild will demand both strategic clarity and bold decision-making.
