While waiting for the new head coach, Inter Milan accelerates talks with Manchester United for Højlund. The striker is open to a return to Serie A

The Manchester United striker is Inter Milan’s main target for strengthening the attack. Sporting director Piero Ausilio is negotiating with the English club.

While awaiting the appointment of a new coach, Inter Milan have already begun their summer transfer work.

Yesterday saw a key contact between Ausilio and Manchester United regarding Rasmus Højlund, the top name identified for the Nerazzurri’s offensive line.

"All-in on Højlund", writes La Gazzetta dello Sport via Fcinter1908.it. "And there’s reason for optimism: the Manchester United forward is open to a return to Serie A — a league where he has already impressed and where he’d be happy to shine again. That willingness is a crucial element and the foundation of Inter Milan’s hope to seal the deal."

This mission to London — officially tied to other matters like Fabregas — was also an opportunity for Ausilio to initiate contact.

Manchester United do not consider Højlund untouchable, but they want to maximize their return after investing €75 million (£63.1 million) plus bonuses two years ago to sign him from Atalanta.

Inter Milan confident despite transfer formula gap with Man United

While United prefer a permanent sale, Inter Milan would like to structure the deal as a loan with an option to buy set around €45 million (£37.9 million) — a valuation consistent with the player’s amortized value after two seasons.

The option would turn into an obligation under certain conditions starting in summer 2026.

Negotiations are ongoing and won’t be wrapped up quickly, but Inter Milan remain confident, especially since Juventus seems to have fallen behind in the race.

There’s still a gap between the clubs over the formula, but there’s room to build the deal.
