Young talent set to return as Inter Milan plan new cycle
Inter Milan have made a definitive decision regarding the future of Aleksander Stankovic: the young midfielder will return to the club next summer.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport via Fcinter1908, Inter Milan will activate the buy-back clause immediately, spending around €23 million (£19.7m / $25m) after having sold him for approximately €10 million (£8.6 million /$11.5 million) last July.

The club had the option to delay the move until 2027 for a slightly higher fee, but Stankovic’s rapid development has convinced the Nerazzurri to act now. The message is clear: no more waiting, both to save money and to give head coach Cristian Chivu a ready-to-use solution in midfield.
Stankovic return seen as key piece in midfield reset
Stankovic’s return is not just an opportunistic move, but a technical one. The young midfielder is expected to play a meaningful role, not simply be a squad player.
Inter Milan’s midfield is heading toward a potential overhaul:
- Hakan Calhanoglu faces an uncertain contract situation
- Henrikh Mkhitaryan could leave at the end of the season
- Nicolò Barella has not matched his previous levels
- Davide Frattesi is expected to move on
- Andy Diouf remains an uncertain project
- Petar Sucic is still developing
At present, the only real certainty is Piotr Zielinski, who will turn 32 soon.
A familiar face for Chivu
One key advantage is that Stankovic is already well known to Chivu, who has closely followed his development. This familiarity could accelerate his integration into the team.
Within the club, there is hope that his impact could mirror that of Francesco Pio Esposito, albeit in midfield rather than attack.
A breath of fresh air
Stankovic’s return is being viewed as a breath of fresh air for a midfield that has recently looked slow and overloaded.
More than just a promising talent, he represents the beginning of a new phase for Inter Milan, one that could reshape the team’s core in the coming seasons.
