After the 2–1 loss at San Siro, Inter Milan’s coach Cristian Chivu shared his disappointment and analysis following the Champions League exit

Inter Milan’s Champions League journey came to an end as they suffered another loss to Bodo Glimt at San Siro.

After falling 3–1 on aggregate, Cristian Chivu’s side couldn’t find the breakthrough they needed, despite dominating possession for much of the game.

Speaking to Sky Sport via Fcinter1908 after the final whistle, Chivu acknowledged his team’s effort but admitted the Norwegian champions deserved to advance:

“We tried everything from the start. Bodo Glimt are a very organized team, always with ten or eleven players behind the ball.

Not conceding an early goal gave them comfort. I can’t blame my players — they gave everything. Bodo had more energy than us and took full advantage of their 3–1 lead.”

Tough lessons from a difficult campaign

After the 2–1 loss at San Siro, Inter Milan’s coach Cristian Chivu shared his disappointment and analysis following the Champions League exit.

When asked about his overall assessment of Inter Milan’s Champions League run, Chivu reflected with honesty:

“Our aim was to stay competitive. In the Champions League, we weren’t quite there. We played well in several matches, but at this level, if you lack sharpness and composure, strong opponents punish you immediately.”

The coach also explained his tactical decisions, including his reluctance to switch the roles of Barella and Zielinski during a slow first half:

“We forced some plays when we gained ground. At halftime, I asked the team to move the ball faster and with more patience to disrupt their 4-4-2 structure. We created chances with crosses and combinations, but missed the final pass or movement. With more clarity and precision, we could have unlocked the game.”

Energy and emotion at the limit

Addressing the lack of spark in the team’s performance, Chivu pointed to physical fatigue and scheduling challenges:

“It’s hard to find energy when you play every three days. We could have attacked differently, but I can’t fault the effort. Bodo Glimt had ten men in their box; we tried everything. There’s bitterness because we wanted to qualify, but they earned it. In three months, they played four great Champions League matches — credit to them.”

Inter Milan now turn their focus back to domestic duties, determined to regain momentum and prove their competitiveness on all fronts.
