Thuram under scrutiny after Inter Milan’s European exit

In the aftermath of Inter Milan ’s Champions League elimination, Marcus Thuram has also found himself under scrutiny.
The French forward failed to make a decisive impact against Bodø/Glimt and, more broadly, has not delivered the leap in leadership and performances that both the club and supporters were expecting.
As reported by Il Giorno via Fcinter1908: “If there is one player from whom more was expected, it is Marcus Thuram, given his status.
Just two Champions League goals this season, both coming in the opener against Ajax.”
That does not mean his campaign has been entirely disappointing. Thuram has been involved in 17 goals overall, 12 of which he scored himself.

However, narrowing the focus to recent weeks paints a different picture. The Frenchman has found the net only once in his last twelve appearances, against Sassuolo, adding three assists to partially offset prolonged, almost theatrical pauses during matches. His body language, at times, has lacked the authority expected from a leading figure.
Expectations unmet, future uncertain for Thuram
Within Inter Milan, the hope was that after scoring 15 goals in his first season, Thuram would take a decisive step forward in terms of leadership.
That evolution has yet to fully materialize, despite last season’s 18 goals and those added so far this year.
The summer will bring the World Cup and, in July, a window during which interested clubs could activate his €85 million (£72 million approx.) release clause.
As things stand, however, the price-to-performance ratio makes that figure less attractive. Should a departure occur, it would likely come through negotiation rather than the direct triggering of the clause.
