João Palhinha emerges as midfield target for Inter Milan

According to Germany’s Sport Bild, Inter Milan are considering a move for Bayern’s João Palhinha, who could be available for a discounted fee

There’s a new name on Inter Milan’s radar for the midfield, and the report comes directly from Sport Bild via Fcinter1908, a well-respected German outlet closely following Bayern Munich.

According to the report, the Nerazzurri have set their sights on João Palhinha, the Portuguese midfielder currently under contract with Bayern Munich. 

Palhinha joined the Bavarian club last season from Fulham for €51 million (£43 million), but he has never truly become a core part of the team’s tactical setup.

“According to Sport Bild, the Portuguese midfielder is a candidate for Inter Milan. The Champions League finalists are undergoing major changes. Inter Milan are considering Palhinha, and Bayern are reportedly willing to negotiate a fee between €25 and €30 million (£21–25 million).”

Despite his physicality, work rate, and defensive qualities, Palhinha has struggled to adapt to Bayern's playing style. Over the past season, he made just 25 official appearances and rarely featured in key matches.

Bayern open to talks as Palhinha falls out of favour

The 29-year-old, under contract until 2028, could represent an ideal profile for Inter Milan, who are looking to add depth and physical presence in midfield following recent exits and potential sales. 

His Premier League and Bundesliga experience could make him a valuable addition to Cristian Chivu’s tactical plans.

Inter Milan's midfield currently includes key players like Nicolò Barella and Hakan Çalhanoğlu, but the club is eager to bring in a more physical and defensively-oriented option to balance the dynamic and technical profiles already present.

Given Bayern’s openness to negotiate a lower fee compared to the €51 million (£43 million) spent last year, this could become a realistic and strategic opportunity for the Nerazzurri in the final stages of the transfer window.
