Coming on in the 81st minute of Barcelona vs Inter Milan—the first leg of the 2024/25 UEFA Champions League semifinal that ended 3-3, with Nerazzurri goals from Thuram and a Dumfries brace—Matteo Darmian made his 200th appearance in an Inter Milan shirt.
It’s a major milestone, representing five years of hard work and professionalism, qualities Darmian has shown consistently on the pitch.
Reliability, team spirit, and decisive goals have all marked his time in Milan.
October 21, 2020: Inter Milan kicked off their European campaign in the first match of the Champions League Group B against Borussia Monchengladbach at San Siro.
The German side featured future Inter Milan players Yann Sommer and Marcus Thuram.
The game ended 2-2 (Lukaku, Bensebaini, Hofmann, Lukaku), and one of Inter Milan’s standout performers was a right wing-back making his debut for the club: Matteo Darmian, who had just joined from Parma in the recent transfer window.
From first goal to lasting legacy: Darmian’s rise in blue and black
Darmian’s Nerazzurri journey began with a bang. He played 33 matches in all competitions in his debut season and scored four goals.
His first came in the reverse fixture against Monchengladbach in Germany. He then netted against Genoa, and most memorably delivered match-winners against Cagliari and Hellas Verona—two unforgettable victories that paved the way for Inter Milan’s 2020/21 Scudetto.

With Simone Inzaghi taking over as head coach, Darmian became a crucial and versatile part of the team.
Right or left wing-back, or even as a defender in a back three, Inter Milan’s number 36 delivered consistently solid performances across the pitch.
Over the years, he has won two Coppa Italia titles, three Supercoppa Italiana trophies (the first with a Sanchez goal assisted by Darmian), and the 20th Scudetto in Inter Milan’s history—his second league title with the club.
In the current season, his fifth in Nerazzurri colors, Matteo has made 40 appearances across all competitions and scored three Serie A goals, against Lecce, Venezia, and Parma.
With his appearance in the Champions League semifinal against Barcelona, Darmian has now reached the prestigious milestone of 200 games for Inter Milan.
